All Ages #NINJAvan Gig Raises nearly $10k for Vancouver Food Bank

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 4:00pm

Vancouver, BC - The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society is pleased to announce that nearly $10,000.00 has been raised as a result of last night's #NINJAvan performance at the Vogue Theater. The impromptu evening, initiated and hosted by Amanda Palmer packed a long list of names including husband Neil Gaiman, Jason Webley, Imogen Heap, Geoff Berner, Bora Yoon and Chris Hadfield just to name a few.

The evening was open to all ages and free of charge with a donation to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.  Drawing on much of the talent from the neighbouring TED Conference, news of the show spread quickly and resulted in a line up forming around the block starting at 3pm. Doors opened just before 9pm and within minutes had evolved into a maximum capacity crowd.  Palmer announced the show on her blog and via Twitter 72 hours prior and was contacted by the Vogue who generously offered up the space free of charge.

"We were as surprised as we were thrilled when Amanda tweeted at us and asked if we would participate," says Kay Thody, Communications Director, Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. "To see so many facets of the community come together under a banner of inclusion and artistic celebration is extremely inspiring. We are honoured to have been a part of NINJAvan and we are grateful to Amanda, the Vogue Theatre and the entire community who banded together to make this possible. It will have a big impact in the lives of those we are assisting."
