Special Events

The GVFBS has special events taking place all year round. Volunteers are needed for events ranging from golf tournaments to concerts to parades and more. If you are outgoing, energetic, enjoy interacting with crowds and have basic cash or credit handling skills, this is the right volunteering opportunity for you!

  • Minimum age requirement: 16 years old, depending on event type
  • Hours: shifts vary depending on event (typically 4 - 6 hour shifts)

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Warehouse Food Sorting

Looking for a volunteer opportunity where your team can work together and help out? Warehouse volunteers evaluate and sort food into smaller boxes in our 36,000 square foot warehouse in East Vancouver.

  • Minimum age requirement: 16 years old (those under 18 require a chaperone)
  • Minimum group size: 10
  • Maximum group size: 25
  • Hours: groups may be scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available.
  • Time: three to four hour shifts are available
  • Commitment: casual
  • Additional Info: our group schedule fills up fast so please book your group early!

Warehouse Opportunities

The GVFBS has several opportunities for volunteers to assist in our 36,000 square foot warehouse. Individual volunteers are needed to sort and repack food throughout the year. We are also looking for skilled volunteers to assist with shipping and receiving donations, work with forklifts and electric pallet jacks. If you are looking for active volunteer work that involves movement, packing and lifting, this job is for you!

Are you interested in seeing the city from a food bank perspective? Our food transportation fleet uses volunteer assistants with drivers on route to pick up and drop off food from various donation locations around the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and North Shore. If you enjoy physical activity, interacting with donors and being out on the road, we want you!

  • Minimum age requirement: 16 years old
  • Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am to 3:00pm
  • Commitment: three to four hour shifts, 3 times per month
  • Additional info: a brief interview is required


Depot services run Tuesday through Friday mornings. Food is distributed via 15 depots located throughout the city and volunteer responsibilities include unloading trucks, distributing food to recipients and routine clean up.

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years old
  • Hours: approximately four hours, one morning per week
  • Commitment: long-term (at least three months)
  • Skills: solid communication skills and ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Additional info: a brief interview is required
