Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The GVFB needs volunteers who are motivated, dedicated, and are interested in meeting volunteers who share a love for their community and want to make a difference.
We are always looking for support with:
We average 55 third-party food and fundraising events each year resulting in about $765,000 in dollars raised – money that supports the work of the Food Bank, our services and programs, and the purchase of fresh, seasonal produce for distribution. Some examples of our events include golf tournaments, concerts, festivals and parades. Volunteers help with set up, take down, food and fund collections and supporting an information booth.
Food and Education
The Food and Education department supports more than 80 community agencies that receive food, kitchen equipment and other supplies from us. Our volunteers assist with research, data entry, workshops, and collecting and organizing food and supplies to be donated.
Food Distribution Locations
We provide two-day food supplements to thousands of individuals and families each week by way of locations in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and North Vancouver. Our goal is to create welcoming, engaging and accessible environments where additional support and services are included as part of the community coming together. Volunteers help us with greeting and distributing food to our members, and assisting with set up and take down.
A variety of skill sets support us including data entry, phone work, supervising other volunteers, photography, graphic design, communications and social media support, as well as administration and finance.

Each year, the GVFB warehouse moves approximately 4.4 million pounds of food in and out of our 33,000-square-foot warehouse. The daily operations of the warehouse consist of: receiving food, sorting and inventory, and distributing food to our locations and partnering agencies. Our volunteers assist with shipping and receiving, preparing orders, recycling and clean up.
