Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society

Hunger Awareness Week

Monday, May 5, 2014 - 8:00am to Friday, May 9, 2014 - 6:00pm
Hunger Awareness Week is a week dedicated to raising awareness of the solvable problem of hunger in Canada. Food banks across the country hold events to tell the story of the work they do, and share the stories of Canadians in need of assistance from food banks.
Food Banks Canada, along with its provincial members and food banks across the country, are asking all Canadians to mark Hunger Awareness Week - to make a positive impact on the issue of hunger across the country.

Multiple Locations - Georgia Street Corridor
Canstruction 2014 has launched for 2014!
Teams of Architects, Engineers, Designers and Students alike are set to bring their creative visions to life for Canstruction Vancouver 2014. This year’s theme is “AROUND THE WORLD”. Can you imagine 10’ x 10’ x 8’ tall sculptures made out of canned food? Can you imagine all of that food going to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society? We CAN!
One of the greatest side effects of the sculptures is that a large percentage of the cans are tuna, salmon or canned protein - all of which are on the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society's 'Most Needed Items' list. To date, Canstruction has raised over 1.24 million cans of food in the last 12 years and 100% of the cans raised are donated to help assist those in our community who need it most.  This year we hope to add an additional 90,000+ cans.
Originally conceived in New York in 1992, Canstruction aims to serve those in need while uniting the design and building community. Now in its 12th year of competition, Canstruction continues to serve as an artistic event and a critical 'food and fun'-raiser, so be sure to take a look at the masterpieces before they are gone!
